Following
the acquisition of Bourne House Stables, famously
described in the Racing Post as a carbuncle on the
face of Lambourn, a huge amount of work obtaining
the subsequent planning permission ensued. Despite
support from most of the village our planning application
had to surmount a number of hurdles before finally
being granted on 14th May 2007.On November 6th Lord
Oaksey then performed the ceremonial task of turning
the first sod with a silver spade presented by Rob
Speirs contract manager for builder Leadbitter.

Once
construction began it was still not all plain sailing.
The archeological survey uncovered a number of ancient
artifacts which although to form part of a future
display once construction is complete, it did hold
up proceedings. In addition Japanese knottweed was
subsequently discovered requiring seemingly endless
clearance under strict vehicle disinfecting procedures.

However
construction is progressing well and on schedule for
completion around the end of 2008. Further pictures
will be posted as construction progresses.
